South Devon Cattle in West Devon
The Hillson Herd of pedigree South Devon cattle is commercially managed and the cattle have earned a good reputation with buyers both at the local markets and with many buyers who frequently come back for repeat purchases. The working ability of the cattle is of paramount importance and an individual animal’s stamina and mentality is very important to its place in the herd. Succesive generations of homebred bulls have been used with working ability, reliability and productivity bred in concentration.
The herd is extensively recorded with its own EasyBreeder software program and this has enabled the herd to calve between 85-93% unassisted calvings year on year, for instance 86% of the calves from the current Stock Bull Hillson Centurion 2nd have been born unassisted. The Herd is bred to do the work independantly of the farmer, it is a true commercial herd easily handled and managed, whimps or loonies are not tolerated !
